Pastry Chef Assistant

Position Overview
The role of a Commis in the Pastry/Bakery section involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen. This position requires a dedicated individual who is willing to learn and grow within the culinary field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chef de Partie and Sous Chefs by following their instructions and completing assigned tasks efficiently.
- Be adaptable to the needs of the business, demonstrating flexibility in working hours and shifts.
- Maintain focus on tasks, ensuring completion before transitioning to the next assignment.
- Adhere to the work list provided by the Chef de Partie, ensuring all tasks are completed within the designated time frame.
- Engage in company training sessions, displaying a positive attitude towards learning and adhering to the company's philosophy.
- Work in a calm and efficient manner, fostering positive relationships within the culinary/pastry/bakery team.
- Exhibit a positive demeanor and take pride in the quality of work, ensuring that the products prepared meet high standards for guests.
- Comply with company policies and legal requirements related to health, safety, sanitation, and fire procedures.
- Report any maintenance issues to culinary management using the appropriate channels.
- Maintain high grooming standards for oneself and team members, ensuring excellent customer relations, especially in public areas.
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and report any absences according to company procedures.
Kitchen Operations
- Oversee the production of food items, ensuring compliance with established recipes and specifications while maintaining presentation and portion control standards.
- Ensure food quality meets established standards, including proper sanitation and adherence to the 'First in First out' principle.
- Properly store all food products in designated fridges and containers throughout the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in all culinary work areas, ensuring colleagues clean their stations after each service.
- Ensure safe and proper use of kitchen equipment, providing guidance to culinary team members.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Patisserie or Bakery.
- 1-3 years of experience in the pastry or bakery field.
- Ability to identify various types and categories of raw materials.
- Knowledge of different cuisines.
- Basic culinary and sanitation knowledge.
- Understanding of basic cooking preparation techniques and knife skills.
- Professional appearance and grooming.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts.
