Our client is a market leader in the Shipping industry and they are actively looking for a Head of Chartering to lead their Chartering department. Job Responsibilities Drive and implement the container fleet chartering strategy in line with commercial trade objectives and the company’s decarbonisation goals. Develop and manage a balanced fleet portfolio that optimises cost efficiency, capacity, compliance, and carbon performance—prioritising modern, fuel‑efficient, and CII‑compliant vessels. Lead negotiations and conclude charter party agreements (time and bareboat), ensuring comprehensive operational and financial due diligence. Build, maintain, and strengthen strong relationships with shipowners, brokers, shipyards, operators, and lessors to secure competitive charter terms and early access to next‑generation vessels. Ensure chartered vessels align with evolving fuel infrastructure requirements (e.g. LNG, methanol, ammonia) and operational needs. Partner with internal teams—including fleet, operations, network, technical, ESG, and legal—to ensure vessel suitability, compliance, and optimal deployment. Track charter market trends, conduct benchmarking, and evaluate total chartering costs, factoring in emission performance and potential ETS or pass‑through expenses. Prepare ownership reports and chartering P&L analyses. Lead and mentor a high‑performing team, building strong market intelligence and chartering expertise. Initiate and implement chartering strategies that enhance commercial results, fleet efficiency, and compliance with ESG and IMO standards. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Management, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline. At least 15 years of experience in container chartering, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position. In‑depth knowledge of vessel technical specifications, class standards, and environmental regulations. Strong background in charter party negotiations, contract management, and shipbuilding agreements, including post‑fixture operations. Proven record of securing emissions‑compliant and future‑ready tonnage. Proficient in the use of digital chartering tools and platforms. Well‑established network within the shipowning, tonnage, and brokerage communities. Knowledge of container liner operations, ship design, and vessel performance characteristics is an advantage.
