About Signal Ocean: Signal Ocean is the technology arm of the Signal Group. The primary product is the Signal Ocean platform, which uses a combination of ship tracking and commercial data to help the shipping community make better informed decisions.
These insights are delivered to our customers both on the web as well as through an IOS app, of which both are being constantly updated and developed as customers' needs evolve, and to ensure we remain at the absolute forefront of tech based solutions.
Furthermore, we work together with shipping companies’ research teams and data scientists, offering a range of APIs and SDKs to offer tailored made solutions.
About the role: This graduate scheme is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to thrive in the dynamic world of commercial shipping. Over a period of approximately 18-24 months, you'll gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry, develop technical expertise, and learn the ropes of client success management. You’ll gain unparalleled exposure to a huge amount of international shipping companies both in APAC as well as the Middle East.
Structure: The program is divided into stages, providing a structured learning journey with hands-on experience. You will embark on a nine-month rotational program where you'll be embedded within three distinct roles. This immersive experience will provide you with a deeper understanding of all aspects of Signal’s commercial operations. The graduate scheme will be managed by the SVP of Sales and the day to day supervision will rotate across the various teams involved.

Stage 1: Academies (3 months) and learn by shadowing Client Success
You will do our three inhouse academies combined with working with our Client Success team.
Academies:
- Tanker Chartering Academy: Gain a foundational understanding of the commercial shipping industry. It is a fast-paced overview of the Commercial function. The training includes all the basics about shipping and is accompanied by introductory videos, live sessions and quizzes covering all shipping functions.
- Product Rotation Academy: Learn about the Signal’s product offerings, you will have the opportunity to dive into the Signal tech world, by understanding the business background, the scope, key actions and the data flow for each product team and the interconnection between them.
- Tech Sales Academy: Develop strong commercial acumen, covering areas like landing new sales, onboarding new clients, clients training, collections & invoicing, salesforce, pricing list, renewals & upselling.
Client Success:
- Immerse yourself in a fast-paced client success environment, directly addressing client inquiries across all aspects of Signal Group's products.
- Hone your communication and problem-solving skills while building a deep understanding of customer needs and pain points.
- Provide technical support to customers via phone, email, and chat.
- Troubleshoot and resolve user issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the development team to escalate and resolve complex technical problems.
- Conduct software training sessions for new and existing customers.
- Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and support activities.
- Tools: Intercom, Full Story, JIRA
Stage 2: API Tech Sales (3 months- with physical presence in Athens)
- Work alongside our API technical team to leverage Python SDKs and SQL to create valuable assets.
- Develop case studies showcasing the power of Signal’s APIs in tackling real-world challenges in the shipping industry.
- Focus areas may include global oil and dry bulk flow analysis, port congestion insights, and global vessel supply visualization.
- Tools: JIRA, Monday.com, Confluence, Figma
Stage 3: Sales officer role (3 months)
- Identify and develop new business opportunities through research and outreach.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with potential clients.
- Conduct product demonstrations and presentations to showcase the value of our software solutions.
- Negotiate and close sales deals to achieve or exceed sales targets.
- Learn to track, develop and manage your sales pipeline in a structured way
- Close one “small” sales deal
Stage 4: Customer Success officer role (3 months)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, ensuring their satisfaction and success with our software solutions.
- Understand client needs and objectives to provide tailored support and recommendations.
- Monitor and analyze customer usage and feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and upsell opportunities.
- Collaborate with the sales, support, and development teams to address customer issues and enhance the product, driving wider client adoption across their organizations.
- Conduct regular check-ins and business reviews with key accounts to maintain strong relationships.
- Run independently Signal’s support desk (Intercom)
Stage 5: Graduate Scheme program completion and next steps
Upon successful completion of the graduate program, we will offer you a position within our commercial team, depending on your aspirations, strengths, and our current business needs. The career path that is currently envisioned:
- Member of the international commercial team in a Sales, Client Success, Technical Sales or other role
Requirements
- A good Diploma/University degree in maritime studies, business, or a related field.
- 0-3 years of experience in a relevant industry, fresh graduates with no experience are welcome to apply.
- Proficiency in using software, a data driven mindset.
- Commercial awareness of the maritime industry.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Highly motivated, self-starter, strong team player.
- Adaptable, flexible and able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
- Geographically mobile and willingness to travel.
- Business fluency in written and oral English. Any other language a strong plus.
