About the Job

The role will suit an individual who has a strong retail market underwriting and operations background in Singapore and gained experience in product development and multi-line portfolio management. This is an important role within the Singapore leadership team as we continue to underwrite opportunity and offer market leading responsiveness and a solution focused mindset to our clients and partners.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Responsibility for the profitable development and growth of the Singapore retail market portfolio through a strong suite of retail products and underwriting platform
  2. Formulate the Singapore retail market strategy and performance metrics and drive the successful execution of the strategy with a focus on the management of risk whilst driving business growth and achieving profit objectives
  3. Develop a strong suite of multi-line products and SME package
  4. Build Multi-Line underwriting capability and authority and support retail market performance metrics reporting
  5. Support retail distribution strategy to engage and grow network of high-quality brokers and agents in the mid-market and SME segments
  6. Drive transformational change and strategic focus by maximizing business value through portfolio optimization, operational efficiency and risk selection
  7. Develop, coach and support the Retail Market team, creating a work environment that fosters teamwork, innovation and cooperation
Key Accountabilities
  1. Accountability for the direction, management and performance of the Singapore retail market portfolio
  2. Responsible for driving the development of the Mid-Market/SME products and business plan
  3. Lead the formulation of Mid-Market/SME underwriting guidelines working closely with the individual Product Line leaders across Int'l and Asia
  4. Support market engagement: generate profitable new retail business and cross-selling opportunities, client and broker engagement, ensure presence and involvement at key mid-market/SME industry events, roadshows and broker and agency activities, build and maintain retail market brand recognition
  5. Support the development of a high-volume platform and implementation of go-to market underwriting strategies and retail process
  6. Key contributor to the Singapore Retail Market plan; adjusting underwriting strategies and actions to meet the needs of a changing marketplace; effectively preserve and enhance profitability through product development and enhancement; pricing discipline, competitive analysis and the development of business-enhancing performance metrics and controls
  7. Develop and tailor insurance solutions & broader risk management support to meet the risk management needs of the mid-market/SME segments
Professional Experience and Skills
  1. Proven experience as a Multiline/SME manager or other relevant insurance role with deep knowledge of the insurance retail market in Singapore
  2. Demonstrated ability to generate profitable new retail business and proven record of delivering meaningful underwriting profit
  3. In-depth understanding of market research methods and analysis
  4. Strong technical background, problem solving analytical skills, and ability to connect data analytics with strategic deliverables to drive retail business strategy
  5. Strong network of producer and industry contacts
  6. Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mindset
  7. Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  8. Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
  9. Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  10. Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with peers and key stakeholders across the organization
