Head of Individual Life Underwriting

Job Requirements

This role will be based in Singapore and will have direct reporting line to Chubb Life’s Chief Underwriting Officer.

Underwriting.
To underwrite all cases in excess of locally delegated underwriting authority to include Third party medical specialists across SEA.
Work with the Chief Actuary & Head of Partnership & Product on product & pricing design to deliver exceptional business results via the execution of underwriting and product strategies, the monitoring and measurement thereof using appropriate metrics.
Expand the use of Simplified/Predictive/Automated Underwriting solutions for agency and alternative distribution.
Support the development of e-Underwriting, tele-health, mobile nurses and digitalization capabilities and work with COO and local operations team to execute.
Work with the Country Leaders and respective teams & directly with internal (peer functions) and external (agents and brokers) business partners to deliver the best product and customer value proposition from an UW standpoint, within our capacity.
Work with reinsurance partners to negotiate best facultative terms and UW aspects of Product Development and ensure alignment with Chubb Life Reinsurance Committee guidelines.
Conduct benchmark of UW requirements and UW features in every market.
Benchmark Underwriting practices and revise local UW authorities and guidelines periodically.
Ensure Chubb Life global underwriting practices are embedded within each market across SEA to include the creation & Implementation of underwriting guidelines, including where applicable Intelligent Underwriting Systems.
Perform underwriting technical audits in countries and related third parties with and follow up on recommendations.
Identify future opportunities for business growth within our chosen market by following industry trends.
Support region wide strategies.
Create and Implement training curriculum and develop professional paths.
Provide strategic direction to scale the UW TOM.
Enhance industry presence by representing Chubb Life in UW Industry meetings and associations.
Assess Medical Services to support Wealth, Health and Wellness Proposition.
Develop High Net Worth Underwriting Capabilities.
Evaluate and fine tune internal underwriting philosophy as necessary.
Review and consolidate Underwriting Guidelines to ensure competitiveness.
Evaluate and homogenize templates for case assessment.
Streamline UW operational process.
Provide support to countries pre and post internal/reinsurers/regulator audits of New Business underwriting.
Support the Global Chief Underwriting Offices and the COO as requested.

Client Relationship Management.
To maintain and enhance external and internal relationships with clients and reinsurance partners to achieve Chubb Life’s project and financial goals.
Review distribution, reinsurance, and other contracts to ensure adherence to services levels and other obligations.
Review compliance with Chubb Corporate guidelines and adherence to Chubb Life’s best practices.
Ensure business needs are met across all operational processes - including new business implementation, partnering with Chubb Life’s global Operations.
Implement any remedial actions in respect of clients to adhere to Compliance, liaise and work with the Compliance representative as required.

Work Experience

10 to 15 years of experience in a similar role.
Experience developing and implementing e-Underwriting solutions.
Chartered Life Underwriting qualifications.
Extensive knowledge of the SEA Life Assurance market.
Comprehensive experience in managing technical Underwriting processes, appetite setting, mitigation tools e.g., reinsurance.
Broad network of industry related experts.
Background in reinsurance.
Leadership & people management experience
