- Guest interaction: Greet guests, escort them to tables, present menus, and take food and drink orders, taking note of any special requests or dietary restrictions.
- Menu and wine knowledge: Discuss menu items in detail, offer knowledgeable recommendations for both food and wine pairings, and be able to memorize complex menus and wine lists.
- Service delivery: Serve food and beverages according to established etiquette and standards, often involving tableside preparation and ensuring perfect plating and presentation.
- Table maintenance: Continuously monitor and maintain table appearance, including refreshing water glasses, clearing used dishes, and ensuring the dining area is clean and organized.
- Collaboration: Coordinate seamlessly with kitchen staff to ensure orders are correct and delivered on time, and with other front-of-house staff as needed.
- Problem-solving: Address guest complaints or issues promptly, professionally, and discreetly.
- Preparation and closing: Perform side work, which includes stocking supplies, polishing silverware, and preparing and resetting tables for the next guests.
Requirements and skills
- 3 years experience in fine dining or a high-end restaurant.
- Strong knowledge of wines and food and beverage pairings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A high level of attention to detail and a polished appearance.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Familiarity with POS (Point of Sale) systems.
- The ability to perform physical tasks, such as walking and standing for long periods.
