Director of The Smu Cities Institute

Singapore Management University (SMU) has started a global search for the inaugural Director of the SMU Cities Institute. Founded only in 2000, the University offers a transformative education for a new generation of graduates and leaders, and a multi-disciplinary research environment to help tackle the world’s complexities and positively impact humanity.
The Institute is a new University-level strategic initiative that brings together and expands related work across the University that is dedicated to developing interdisciplinary research that tackles social/behavioural, ecological and technological challenges in order to impact positively on urban viability, vibrancy and vitality. While pursuing a global agenda, the Institute will focus on the rapidly urbanizing regions of South-East Asia.
The inaugural Director will enjoy international standing in contributing to the future of cities, will bring a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and success at developing and delivering leading-edge research agendas. Given the broad remit and ambition of the Institute, the Director’s disciplinary training can be quite diverse, encompassing fields such as geography, sociology, economics, architecture, information systems, urban planning and law. The ability to connect with urban challenges that are of particular interest to Singapore will be welcomed.
