The Chief Operating Officer will report directly to the Group CEO and will bring the capability required to capitalise on the scale the organisation has achieved.
Responsible for the majority of revenue and sitting on the organisation’s executive leadership team, the COO will work together with the onsite management teams and peer functional leaders to drive operational discipline and rigour across the network with a view to maximising efficiency and enhancing service delivery.
Reporting to the role are 6 x Regional Managers with dotted line resources across the support functions of finance, marketing, recruiting, and HR.
The COO is also supported by a central team of ~35 employees
The role is responsible for:
- Leading a diagnostic of where the organisation sits on the operational efficiency spectrum, including the identification and prioritisation of significant opportunities requiring attention;
- maximising the efficiency of operations through senior supervisory operational management and effective planning and organisation;
- optimising attraction, recruitment and retention in a skilled-labour-challenged environment;
- providing guidance on the business operating model, ensuring role clarity and setting and communicating clear expectations on what is needed and how it should be delivered;
- delivering a people-centric model focused on the growth and development of all team members, strong engagement and a sense of belonging;
- working effectively in a matrix structure, leveraging shared service functional resources to achieve outcomes.
To grow the top and bottom line, the role is expected to:
- provide leadership, vision and strategy to generate a sense of community and purpose beyond each individual site, and to facilitate the whole accreting to be greater than the sum of the parts;
- drive projects and improvement initiatives (e.g. standardisation of site management systems and consolidation/derivation of insightful data to improve business decisions);
- support vertical integration benefits between the two business units;
- develop the property and leasing function, comfortable leading negotiations with an appreciation for what can be achieved through a sophisticated approach to property procurement;
- extract value through embedded sources of margin, specifically via sourcing, pricing, merchandising and business consumables.
