Senior/Principal Pharmacist Job Description

About the Role:

This Senior/Principal Pharmacist role involves overseeing the continuity, quality, and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceutical supplies. You will be responsible for collaborating closely with clinical teams and inventory units to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing expectations and working closely with clinical pharmacists and physicians on alternate sources and drugs when usual sources have supply issues.
  • Ensuring proper and comprehensive evaluation of all drugs and gathering inputs from key stakeholders (physicians, nurses, and/or clinical pharmacists).
  • Representing the institution as an evaluation committee member in evaluating drugs and pharmaceutical products.
  • Keeping optimal inventory levels to achieve optimal stock availability versus overstocking and avoid wastages.
  • Working closely with the pharmacy inventory team on inventory management of all pharmacy sections, supporting stock take activities, and reporting.
  • Participating in key activities and related operational workgroups, quality improvement/productivity projects, management of critical supplies & stocks, attending management meetings at the supporting site.
  • Timely sourcing and processing of purchase requests from users - Purchase requests must be fulfilled on time to not affect patient treatment plans.
  • Verifying and submitting requirements of national contracts taking into consideration past usage and future trends of disease treatment protocols that align with MOH directives and international guidelines.
  • Achieving cost-savings from purchases (Group/cluster contracts and institution quotations/negotiations).
  • Managing controlled drugs, distributing effectively, and in accordance with the requirements of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
  • Ensuring continuity of critical supplies or alternate products during exceptional periods.
  • Minimizing the total value of goods written-off (Pharmacy Store and all pharmacy sections/substores).
  • Maintaining material/item code creation and updates. Timely and accurate maintenance of PHI pharmacy systems (SAP & dispensing systems) on cost price, selling price, drug class, and drug subsidy status/type.
  • Handling audit queries in all related areas, stakeholder management at the supporting site, and leading and motivating the team at the site.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Pharmacy with a minimum of 5 years' relevant professional practice experience.
  • Registered pharmacist with the Singapore Pharmacy Council.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in engaging stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and knowledge in SAP-MM.
  • Relevant experience in procurement and inventory management of drugs and pharmaceutical products.
  • Good negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, independent worker with a team spirit and good problem-solving skills.
