Audiology Expertise: Hearing Specialist Role

As an expert in audiology, you will be responsible for diagnosing and managing hearing disorders through the use of corrective devices. You will evaluate and treat disorders related to the auditory and vestibular systems using various equipment to assess patients' balance systems and their ability to hear.

You will then create treatment plans and prescribe patients with corrective devices such as hearing aids. You will also counsel patients on how to use these devices and adapt to hearing loss.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing data alongside other medical professionals to make a diagnosis and find a suitable course of treatment.
  • Assessing patients with hearing loss, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or balance problems.
  • Examining the ear canal as part of a rehabilitative program.
  • Identifying disorders of the hearing and balance systems of patients.
  • Measuring the loudness at which patients begin to hear sounds, their ability to distinguish between sounds, and the impact of hearing loss.
  • Providing instruction, rehabilitation, and counseling services to patients.
  • Selecting, fitting, and dispensing hearing aids or cochlear implants.
  • Using audiometers, computers, and other testing devices to test auditory problems.

Requirements:

  • Experience with hearing aids, providing consultation and recommendations in the selection, fitting, verification, and review of hearing aids.
  • Experience with hearing implant, performing intra-operative assessment, switch-on, and mapping for cochlear implant and implantable devices.
