BIM Coordinator Role

Our organization is seeking an experienced BIM Coordinator to play a central role in ensuring seamless collaboration and communication between different disciplines on a project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Coordination: Serving as the primary point of contact for all BIM-related activities, our coordinator will ensure effective communication and collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
  • BIM Execution Plan Implementation: Developing, managing, and enforcing the BIM Execution Plan to outline the project's BIM goals, standards, protocols, and workflows.
  • Model Management and Integration: Managing the creation and maintenance of the project's central or 'federated' model, aggregating individual models from different disciplines into a single, comprehensive model.
  • Clash Detection and Resolution: Proactively running clash detection tests using specialized software to identify and resolve conflicts or interferences between building components.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Performing regular audits and quality checks on BIM models to ensure they meet project specifications, industry standards, and are accurate and complete.

Typical Duties and Tasks

  • BIM Meetings: Leading and facilitating regular BIM coordination meetings with project teams to review models, discuss issues, and track progress.
  • Software and Technical Support: Providing technical support and troubleshooting for BIM software and related tools, assisting team members with modeling challenges.
  • Training and Mentorship: Providing training and guidance to junior staff and other team members on BIM processes, standards, and software usage.
  • Model Maintenance: Keeping BIM models up-to-date throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating design changes, updates, and as-built information.
  • Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including clash reports, meeting minutes, and model audit records.
  • Workflow Optimization: Identifying and implementing new workflows or technologies to improve efficiency and collaboration on the project.
  • Deliverables: Ensuring BIM deliverables, such as drawings, schedules, and data exports, are completed on time and meet required specifications.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Strong knowledge of BIM software platforms (e.g., Revit, ArchiCAD, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures).
    • Expertise in BIM coordination and clash detection software (e.g., Navisworks Manage, BIM 360, Solibri).
    • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with diverse teams.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and workflows.
    • The ability to be proactive, flexible, and adapt to project changes.
  • Education and Experience:
    • A degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
    • Proven experience in a BIM-related role, often starting as a BIM Modeler or Technician.
