Job Title: Occupational Health and Safety Professional

The primary function of this position is to ensure the safety and health of workers engaged in road and civil construction projects. This includes developing and implementing safety programs, conducting regular site inspections, and providing training to promote a culture of safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safety programs specific to road construction activities, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Provide safety training and awareness programs for workers, supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review safety plans, method statements, and permits to work for road and civil construction activities.
  • Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices on site.
  • Liaise with government regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to stay updated on safety regulations and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety meetings, committees, and emergency response drills.
  • Provide timely safety reports and recommendations to management.

Requirements:

  • Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) with the relevant authority.
  • A licence from the relevant agency.
  • 3-5 years experience in occupational safety and health management, preferably in road construction or civil engineering projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and safety management software.
  • Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel to different project sites as needed.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry as a WSHO and ECO.
  • Experience in the implementation of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
