Duties:

As a TELEVISION PROGRAMMING AND PLANNING SPECIALIST at the GS some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Researches, gathers, organizes and analyzes data from all available resources, including Nielsen data, to develop expertise concerning AFN audience and their television information and entertainment viewing requirements, and viewing patterns of the CONUS audience.
  • Selects and applies resources that best satisfy customers and maximize available resources. Develops programming strategy tactics supporting strategic goals to ensure every member of the AFN audience finds programming relevant, engaging and satisfying.
  • Collaborates with internal Broadcast Center sections such as Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Affiliate Relations, and others to ensure that tactics are understood and can be supported within available resources.
  • Verifies and assembles acquisition data to support purchase order or gratis acquisition documents and record keeping. Ensures all program planning stays within legal rights, on budget and efficiently and fully takes advantage of the Government's rights to the programming.
  • Create special programming stunts and initiatives relating to AFN news programming.
  • Coordinates with networks to request, negotiate, document, and clear licensing and broadcast rights on applicable AFN platforms.

Qualifications:

  • You may qualify at the
    GS12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the
    GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Television broadcast programming at a major media television service such as ABC, CBS, Netflix, Hulu, etc;
  • Scheduling and developing news programming strategies with a major media service such as ABC, CBS, Netflix, Hulu, etc;
  • Maintaining communication with entertainment and sports industry representatives;
  • Representing to external stakeholders, and tracking permissions needed and acquired.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience._

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
