Asean General Counsel

The ASEAN Cluster General Counsel (ex Singapore) is a senior management-level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance across a broad range of practice areas. **Responsibilities**: - Oversee managers and hold overall responsibility for team including staffing, coordination of resources, performance, compensation management, career development and personnel-related matters, as applicable - Oversee all legal activity for all businesses in the ASEAN Cluster (ex Singapore) - Act as a strategic business partner and key advisor to key stakeholders - Set overall strategy, establishing direction for policy development and planning - Represent the firm both internally and externally with clients, government bodies or other organizations, in court, at depositions or at mediations, typically serving at the most senior level as part of the senior management team - Anticipate, evaluate and appropriately respond to developments in local and international environments impacting business policies and assist business to evolve to meet market place and client needs **Qualifications**: - 15+ years of experience - Experience in people management - Prior experience leading a team of lawyers - Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws and practices - Proven analytical and organizational skills - Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication - Bar license in good standing to practice law **Education**: - Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience - Master's degree preferred **Key Responsibilities**: - The ASEAN GC is responsible for overseeing internal Legal teams in ASEAN in partnership with the APAC Regional General Counsel and, where applicable, with Product legal department heads. - The successful applicant will be expected to act as senior legal advisor to the South Asia and ASEAN (SAA) Cluster Head and senior business leaders in ASEAN and APAC generally. - Provide oversight of legal affairs for ASEAN in partnership with internal ASEAN Legal teams, the APAC Regional General Counsel and, where applicable, Product legal department heads, including but not limited to: regulatory issues and developments, mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation, employment law, litigation management, divestments, administrative matters, security (including internal investigations and recovery), and day-to-day functional operations to ensure that business is conducted to the highest standards possible. - Anticipate and proactively engage on key regulatory initiatives and issues together with internal ASEAN Legal teams. - Ensure the efficient management of ASEAN Legal employees’ performance management, career development and compensation management processes. - Promote and drive talent development, mobility and diversity within the APAC Legal.
