Team Structure:
**Asia offices**:
In Asia, Stephenson Harwood counts 4 offices (Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Seoul) totalling 231 people, including 38 partners and 69 associates. In addition, in Singapore the firm has a formal law alliance with Virtus and in the PRC a CEPA association with Wei Tu Law Firm
The HR and L&D function comprises of 40 people globally and is responsible for the effective management of all matters concerning the attraction, engagement, development, progression and retention of our people. This involves guiding and supporting partners, managers, and all employees alike, as well as supporting the creation of an inclusive and diverse environment, enabling our people to thrive. We are involved in a wide range of activities including:
- Implementing our people and talent strategy
- Resourcing, talent and career management
- Reward (financial and non-financial) strategy
- Supporting the performance management process
**Role overview**:
Based in either Hong Kong or Singapore, the Regional Head of HR and L&D, Asia will play a key role in the development and delivery of a commercial and professional HR and L&D service, be responsible for the implementation of the firm’s people strategy (including the D&I strategy) and will lead the HR and L&D teams based in the region. This will include establishing strong operational excellence and efficiencies, being a change leader, supporting talent development and management and drawing upon significant HR and L&D expertise and a commercial and strategic skillset.
Designing and delivering a regional offering which both complements and aids the delivery of the global HR and L&D strategy will be key. Collaboration will therefore be at the heart of this role
The role will work very closely with, and provide business partner support to, the Asian offices' OMPs and report into the London based Heads of L&D and HR.
The role will require regular regional travel.
Main Responsibilities:
**Human Resources**:
- Lead the efficient and effective HR operations in Asia, and identify and implement any enhancements required
- Oversee the development and maintenance of country-specific templates, policies, procedures and guidelines that meet the firm's standards and are compatible with local practice, laws and benchmarking as well as, when possible, global approach
- Lead on promoting/supporting talent management
- Be responsible for benchmarking on benefits, salaries etc. for the region to allow decision making by the senior management. Use own network and strong market knowledge to provide market trend and benchmarking as well as to propose relevant regional or local initiatives
- Lead on the promotion of the firm's brand
- Lead/participate in HR related projects (global, regional or local)
- Support the Head of HR with project delivery, acting as a lead project manager for the Asia region
- Key actor for global mobility within the parameters of the firm
- Ensure annual global processes (for example budget, performance review, salary review etc.) are carried out effectively and in line with the firm's timeline and guidelines
- Contribute towards employee engagement, communication, and relations agendas
- Delivery of the firm's D&I strategy in the region
**Learning and Development**:
As a pivotal member of a cohesive, ambitious and high energy L&D team, this role has responsibility to:
- Engender a high performance culture by delivering a comprehensive L&D service and a legal/technical and business skills training and career development curriculum to the region including: (i) Career development and business skills training - trainees, junior, mid-level and senior associates; (ii) Legal and tradecraft skills programmes for lawyers - advise, coordinate and implement; (iii) Training and skills development - Business Services and secretarial population; (iv) Informal coaching and 1:1 career development support - high potentials and partners; and (v) Providing support to regional L&D and training partners
