The Wholesale Trade Director will lead and oversee all aspects of the company's trading operations, focusing on precious materials such as gems, coloured stones, diamonds, silver, and gold. This role involves strategic planning, supplier and client relationship management, compliance oversight, and operational leadership across both physical and digital marketplaces.
Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute wholesale trade strategies aligned with company goals.
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities locally and internationally.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives for online trading platforms.
Operations Management:
- Oversee procurement, logistics, inventory, and sales operations.
- Ensure efficient supply chain management and timely delivery of goods.
- Monitor performance metrics and implement improvements.
Business Development:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, especially in key markets like India, Thailand, Indonesia, Middle East and etc.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors and buyers.
- Expand the company's presence in online marketplaces.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to international trade regulations, customs laws, and financial compliance.
- Manage anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) protocols, especially relevant in precious metals and stones trading.
Team Leadership:
- Lead cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, finance, and logistics.
- Mentor and develop staff to support business growth.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in wholesale trade, preferably in precious commodities.
- Proven track record in senior management or director-level roles.
- Experience in international sourcing and supplier negotiations.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- MBA or equivalent is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
- Deep understanding of global trade practices and compliance.
- Familiarity with online trading platforms and e-commerce strategies.
- Ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
- Willingness to travel for supplier and client meetings.
- Knowledge of gemological standards and precious metal grading is a plus.
- Experience with digital marketplaces and B2B platforms.
