About Department and Purpose of the Position
The National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) is a national specialist centre under the National University Health System (NUHS). It is the only public cancer centre in Singapore treating both paediatric and adult cancers in one facility.
The incumbent is responsible for interpreting complex medical information in electronic medical records to abstract the details of clinical data into the NCIS cancer registry. The incumbent applies the policies and procedures of the cancer registry in accordance with NCIS Health standards, governing national, and central registry standards to assist in the achievement of institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following:
- Identify newly identified cases of malignancies and certain benign tumors diagnosed and/or treated within the organization for reportability utilizing standard setter materials such as WHO ICD-O, applicable Surveillance of Epidemiology and End Results (SEER), North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and Commission on Cancer (CoC) requirements.
- Determine course of treatment and identify pertinent details of patient cancer treatment for case abstraction as required by standard setting agencies.
- Utilizes standard setting agencies to identify and assign appropriate codes for procedures and treatments performed related to diagnoses, treatments, and complications of cancer care in the abstract.
- Maintain integrity of the registry database by submitting accurate and timely data meeting department quality and productivity benchmarks.
- Analyses and reports information from the database.
- Performs additional duties related to the cancer registry, including ensuring patient follow-up to enable early detection of any recurrence or related disease, and to acquire data on length and quality of survival.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Principal Cancer Registrar
Key Requirements
- Basic degree from a recognized institution. A degree in Healthcare is preferred.
- Skilled in data analysis, communication, presentation, writing, and problem solving.
- Relevant ICD-O-3 coding experience will be advantageous
- Able to understand the complex medical information in medical records
- Able to learn the cancer registry standards quickly
- Meticulous and thorough
- Able to work in fast paced environment
- Strong and effective communication skills
- Good computer knowledge
- Able to work as a good team member
