The Role

  • Working in the laboratory environment to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures while rotating through various clinical sections and work shift to deliver accurate, reliable and precise test results in a prompt and efficient manner which assists the physicians in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients condition.
  • Assist Section Manager in the operational function of one of the clinical section or bench and directly supports to achieve facility laboratory management objectives.
  • As a platform before promotion to Senior Medical Technologist to assess technical and administrative skills.

Key accountabilities

  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory test and procedures in the different sections of the Clinical Laboratory - Checks and review pending test and provide documentation for cause of delay in completing the test.
  • Performs primary weekly QC review of all QC results in the section assigned to maintain and troubleshoots QC data if there is any biases. Submits Monthly QC Summary Report to the Laboratory Operations Manager.
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of instruments used in the laboratory and to report to section manager, Hospital BME and vendor of any equipment not functioning properly
  • Performs 6-monthly or annual validation of minor equipment such as thermometer, pipette, timer and blood box.
  • Participates and performs any inter-laboratory quality assurance (IQA), external quality assurance (EQA) and proficiency testing programs
  • Participates in internal or external continuing medical education (CME) and-other professional development programs which includes performing in-house training or CME presentation for junior MT staff.
  • Performs the required validation protocol for new test set-up as assigned by the section manager or senior MT and submits the report for approval to the Laboratory Operations Manager.
  • Performs goods receipt, and goods issuein the SAP application.
  • Review the inventory stock report and maintains an adequate laboratory stock inventory level
  • Performs annual reading of applicable laboratory policies (manuals, QAP, SOP and Wl).
  • Assists in the annualreview of laboratory policies assigned by the section manager.
  • Assist in training and supervising of new personnel
  • Participates in the annual quality improvement projects in the laboratory - Performs compliance check of all applicable safety regulations in the laboratory and reports non-compliance to section manager for corrective action.
  • In the absence of Senior Medical Technologist, directly supervises other sections as well to ensure continuous operational service.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognized Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years working experience in aClinical Laboratory.
  • Working experience in 1 of the clinical laboratory sections
