The Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and networks, with a strong emphasis on security and compliance in today's evolving threat landscape. This role ensures uptime, performance, resource availability, and robust protection of the IT infrastructure that supports business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
- Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers, networking, firewall, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and enterprise software applications
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file servers, print servers, and Office 365 environments
- Perform regular system backups, recovery, and disaster recovery testing
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware/software procurement, licensing, and support
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain IT security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antivirus, and endpoint protection
- Perform regular patch management for operating systems, applications, and firmware
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, risk analysis, and security audits in alignment with frameworks such as CISSP domains, NIST, and ISO 27001
- Enforce identity and access management best practices by applying the principles of least privilege and zero trust
- Maintain security documentation, incident logs, and compliance reports
Monitoring & Incident Response
- Use system monitoring and SIEM tools to track system health, performance, and security events, if any
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated hardware, software, and network issues promptly
- Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning, testing, and execution
User & Access Management
- Manage user accounts, group policies, and access rights across systems and applications
- Provide escalation-level support to internal teams, ensuring security policies are consistently applied
Documentation & Process Improvement
- Keep detailed records of configurations, procedures, and change management activities
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance performance, security, and resilience
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Professional certification preferred: CCNA, CISSP, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure support
- Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server environments
- Experience with cybersecurity tools, vulnerability management, and incident response
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities
