As the **Head of Core Services Engineering**, this is a critical leadership role in the CTO office to support the CTO and broader technology leadership. The role is expected to contribute towards building the foundational engineering practices and culture of the CTO team by overseeing all aspects of critical services for the bank including providing guidance, leadership and evangelism to the development team on the ground. The other aspects of the role include breaking down silos and bringing the whole customer journey across the functions, looking for areas of opportunities within the architecture of the bank and creating a better developer experience for the team.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Partner closely with the CTO in building the long-term strategic goals of the function in line with the mission and values of the broader technology team and bank
- Build and hold strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the critical lines of business
- Oversee all aspects of core and critical services for the bank which includes managing the engineering teams that support these critical services
- Provide leadership, mentoring, guidance and evangelism to the development team on the ground and in offshore locations
- Bring the development team together by breaking down silos and drive cross-functional thinking when looking at the customer experience journey for the bank
- Explore new ways of working to drive better developer experience by bringing in new tools and platforms for more effective and productive development teams.
- Focus on the career development of the technical leads to shape them as future leaders
- Be up to date with the latest emerging technologies and trends with a curious mindset to explore them
- Drive expertise in the DevOps practices and work with the team to automate the build, test, and deployment processes, and implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Design and develop microservices architectures with a keen eye on understanding how to manage them.
- Leverage data analytics to make data-driven decisions that align with the organization's goals
Drive strong adoption of security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Provide direction and guidance, delegate tasks effectively, and foster a positive team environment.
- Manage complexity effectively and ensure that the team is working towards the right goals
- Be flexible in order to adapt to new technologies, processes, and ways of working

In order to be successful at this role, you must have experience in the following:

- 15+ years of overall experience with strong background in development, architecture and delivery in the banking domain
- Manage a large team size of 20+ people with an ability to provide leadership to onshore / offshore teams
- Extensive working experience in agile development environments on the Cloud (AWS preferred) and containers
- Strong knowledge of API Layers, Microservices, Database, Streaming platforms and AWS infrastructure is critical to the success of the role
- Strong knowledge of DevOps, Kafka and automating the build, test, and deployment processes, and implementation of CI/CD pipelines
- Expertise in security principles and compliance best practice
- Familiar with agile methodologies and able to facilitate agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Expertise in database technologies such as SQL and NoSQL databases, and data management techniques such as data replication, sharding, and backup and recovery
- Experience in working in frictionless code environments
- Ability to navigate challenging environments and find a solution through to resolution
- Banking experience is highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a keen ability to build relationships with critical stakeholders
