The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee general logistics and drive cost savings related to ocean freight across the entire organization.

The Director - Logistics is responsible for:

- Provide leadership, direction and guidance to support the cost savings and efficiencies of the entire organization’s ocean freight program.
- Leverage the entire ocean freight program with the parent company in Japan to drive cost savings and efficiencies.
- Provide regular update with parent company in Japan with Itochu Logistics to come up with solutions on ocean freight issues and challenges of the organization.
- Build strong relationships with global freight forwarders, ocean carriers, and port authorities.
- Negotiate contracts and service-level agreements (SLAs) with carriers and 3PL providers to ensure competitive rates and performance.
- Monitor global shipping trends, freight rate volatility, and port congestion to proactively manage risks.
- Evaluate and select global and regional freight forwarders, ensuring alignment with service, cost, and compliance standards.
- Oversee compliance with international trade regulations, including customs documentation, Incoterms, and import/export requirements.
- Provide leadership and direction to the ocean freight logistics team.

Required skills and qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or related field (MBA is preferred).
- Minimum working experience of 15 years logistics.
- Strong knowledge of shipping (both breakbulk and containerized).
- Possessing ability to manage multiple projects and tasks of varying complexities through effective time management.
- Ability to work with a variety of different business and local cultures will be integral to succeed in this role.
- Willing to travel to developing countries.
- Person will have to be detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
- Self-motivated, responsible & can work independently.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, with advanced Excel and Powerpoint skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English & Business Japanese are required due to frequent reporting back to parent company in Japan (JLPT N1 cert is required).
- Minimum 10 years working experience with Japanese MNC.
