
Employee Relations Leader

Marsh McLennan (MMC) are currently seeking an experienced senior Employee Relations professional to lead the function for Asia. Marsh McLennan operates in 12 markets across Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, China, Taiwan, Macau SAR, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar. This role may be based in either Singapore or Hong Kong.

**What can you expect?**
Reporting to the Global Head of Employee Relations (based in New York), this position is a part of a global ER team and the Asia HR regional leadership team. The Employee Relations Leader will provide advice and counsel to the HR community on all types of employee relations issues and will manage large projects and processes and write a variety of policies, guides, templates and other documents.
Key objectives will be to ensure uniformity in the treatment of colleagues, to reduce litigation, reputational and financial costs, and to balance the interests of the manager, the colleague and the business. Primary responsibilities include the following.
- Counselling HR colleagues in all business units on a wide range of employee relations issues throughout the employment cycle including employee disputes, complaints, performance management, company policies and procedures, colleague discipline, background checks, and legal requirements.
- Triaging and managing all Asia Employee Relations cases using sound judgment to determine when to partner with our internal legal teams and determine when external legal advice is required.
- Identifying and ensuring compliance with new employment-related law & regulations across Asia
- Creating and updating employee handbooks and standard templates (e.g., employment contracts) across our businesses in each country in the region.
- Work closely with internal and external legal counsel on complex issues.
**We will count on you to**:
- Provide advice and oversight to HR as they oversee investigate employee complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation under the various employment laws; you may conduct investigations in certain highly complex situations.
- Work with the internal HR community to implement required legal changes to our policies.
- Create guidance materials for the HR community in the region.
- Create and arrange in-person and online self-service HR training sessions for regional HR and people manager audiences including determining topics, writing, and presenting the session or arranging for an expert instructor.
- Provide advice and oversight to HR in all matters raised before regulatory bodies and local Labor Councils or similar.
**What you need to have?**
- BS or BA law degree (legal qualification is a plus)
- More than 10 years of progressive Employee Relations experience, including complex investigations and issue resolution.
- In depth knowledge of and ability to interpret local employment laws across Asia:
- Effective writing and editing skills.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Experience conducting internal training on ER related topics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a junior team member
- Excellent Microsoft Office package skills
- Occasional travel is a requirement of this role.

- Proven capabilities to work in a dynamic and fast-moving environment with flexibility to adapt work schedules to meet multiple priorities. Continual focus on process improvement and digitization to drive increase efficiency and effectiveness. Able to discuss confidential and commercially sensitive matters.
- Fluency in Mandarin or Japanese is a plus, but not a requirement.
