**About Takeda**
The Director of Communications is the primary communication leader for the Growth & Emerging Markets (GEM) region, reporting to the Head of Communications & Corporate Affairs for GEM. The individual in this role leads the development and implementation of the region-wide communication strategy and will provide executive communications support for the regional president and key GEM leadership team members, as well as leadership and support to the region’s communications colleagues and selected stakeholders to advance Takeda’s business priorities and reputation. The role is responsible for leading and executing communications plans for specific therapeutic areas and supports the execution of the country
- and sub-regional communications strategies. It is responsible for maintaining the strategic link between communication activities and business needs in the GEM markets.
**Role responsibilities include**:
- Leading the alignment of the GEM regional communication strategy with Takeda’s corporate strategies, business objectives, mission, and vision through effective partnership with the Global Portfolio Division and Global corporate communications and therapeutic area teams.
- Serving as communication strategist and executor to the franchise teams for key therapeutic areas (including participation in launch activation workshops and brand planning processes, creating patient stories, etc.).
- Driving the regional communication strategy and associated internal and external message platforms for the President of GEM and key leadership team members. This includes managing positioning and participation of the President of GEM and other key leaders in selected public relations and communication programs (conferences, thought leader speaking opportunities, social media, etc.).
- Creating and aligning regional input for selected corporate internal and external communications materials - i.e., external media statements, employee engagement and message points, key organization announcements and corporate branding.
- Monitoring company activities, industry issues and the regional communication environment recommending appropriate communication strategies and managing issues and crisis communication as needed.
- Actively participating on GEM Communications platforms (Yammer, myTakeda) and collaborating with area/country communicators and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate messaging, contribution to global projects, and alignment of local and global branding efforts.
- Managing relevant vendor and contractor relationships.
- Supporting continuous learning on communication systems and tools needed to support the Region. Representing the function in various internal meetings (Corp Affairs and Comms meetings, Franchise meetings, GEM Policy Council, Access to Medicine (AtM) Comms meetings, HR related meetings, etc.).
**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS**:
- University degree in Communications/Journalism/Administration or equivalent
- 12-15+ years of experience in communication positions of increasing responsibility
- PR agency experience preferred
- Strong working knowledge of all aspects of communications including executive positioning, internal communication, media relations and social media, product communication, investor relations, crisis communication and project management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Effective manager and leader, who can bring working teams together to achieve results around common objectives
- Ability to negotiate and form consensus among various parties
- Experience in supporting the execution of strategic, long-term communication plans, as well managing short-term issues
- Experience providing communications counsel and support to senior executives, as well as working with teams from different cultures and time zones.
- Pragmatic with strong attention to detail, result oriented, motivated, reliable, and trustworthy
- Ability to deliver in high pressure situations and with short deadlines
- Strong ethics and integrity
- Good communication IT and digital technical skills an asset
- Flexibility needed for working within different time zones
- Pharmaceutical business experience preferred, European/Emerging Markets
- and vaccines knowledge an advantage
