Tribal Engagement Senior Policy Advisor

**Duties**:
- Brings national policy expertise related to the federal trust responsibility (25 U.S.C. 5304) and government to government relationship between the United States and the federally recognized Tribes.
- Serves as an agency expert on Tribal engagement and contributes to the latest substantive thinking in ACYF. Relates findings and specific knowledge of the broader child welfare, runaway and homeless youth, and positive youth development fields to tribal populations within ACYF policies and programs.
- Manages a wide range of policy projects related to Tribal engagement, in collaboration with the policy teams in Children's Bureau and Family and Youth Services Bureau. Provides expert advice and consultation to make realistic assessments of difficult, complex and sensitive policy issues.
- Provides expert advice and guidance to ACYF senior central and regional office personnel to ensure consistency of policy-informed practices related to Tribal engagement throughout ACYF. Identifies important areas of interaction and impact among program operations.

**Qualifications**:
- All individuals with experience living and/or working in tribal communities are encouraged to apply.
- **Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.**
**Specialized Experience**:
**GS-14**: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the **GS-13** level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below:
- Understanding of tribal sovereignty and of the laws and treaties impacting the government-to-government relationship that exists between American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes and the federal government;
- Administering programs that provide support and technical assistance to state and tribal governments, courts, and/or human services systems that strengthen AI/AN families, protect AI/AN children, and allow for the healthy and positive development of AI/AN youth;
- Developing and interpreting guidance to redesign programs and policies to support addressing disparities amongst AI/AN children, youth, and families;
- Developing policy options, analyzing impacts, and presenting options to high-level leadership for decisions impacting AI/AN children, youth, and families.
