Data Centre Infrastructure Specialist Job Description

The role of a Data Centre Infrastructure Specialist is pivotal in maintaining the operational integrity of data centres. Key responsibilities include providing support in ticket resolution, hardware replacement, fibre cabling patching and testing.

This position demands strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills and a commitment to ensuring seamless functioning of data centre infrastructure. The ideal candidate will work in environments with controlled temperature and humidity, adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a high level of attention to detail in all tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist customers onsite or remotely by resolving technical issues
  • Rack and stack network equipment or servers as per client requirements
  • Installation of fibre and UTP cables for efficient data transmission
  • Inventory checking and reporting for sites to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Log and track all incidents through IT service management tools and follow incident management processes
  • Support business workstations, applications and services to ensure business continuity and customer satisfaction
  • Collaborate with vendors, network infrastructure, security, compliance and other teams for project work
  • Supervise vendors and perform user-acceptability checks once completed

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a diploma or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
  • 1-2 years of working experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience in data centre operations, preferably in a data centre infrastructure specialist role
  • Strong knowledge of data centre hardware, fibre cabling and networking technologies
  • Certification in relevant areas such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP or equivalent is a plus
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to participate in on-call rotations if necessary
  • Physical fitness for handling equipment and performing maintenance tasks
