Position Title:Director, Wellness CenterPosition Type:RegularHiring Range:$91,800 - $125,000 commensurate with experienceAnnualPOSITION PURPOSEEssential Duties And ResponsibilitiesStaff Supervision and Program Management Serve as the direct supervisor for assistant directors to provide guidance, leadership, direction, and support while ensuring quality and accountability. Schedule, plan and conduct staff meetings and individual one on ones that are informative, collaborative, and productive. Provide ongoing feedback and complete annual performance reviews. Has primary oversight for the development and implementation of major Wellness Center programs and the coordination and implementation of the Eight Dimensions for Well-Being. Provides advice and support for center policies and planning, and supports responses to issues and trends, including regular communication with student leaders. Ensures the highest level of customer service is maintained by the front desk staff including regularly monitoring feedback and task completion. Works to identify solutions when gaps are identified. Responds effectively to state and federal policy changes, specifically those related to interpersonal and/or gender based violence. Prepare and submit center operating budget plans and proposals and monitor budget allocations. Create a vision for the planning and implementation of center programs and services. Develop and implement departmental strategic planning consistent with and complimentary to that of the University. Collaborate to build theory informed, evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies and programs. Lead and provide direction for outreach, marketing, and communication efforts for Wellness Center programs and events, including regularly distributed Wellness Center newsletters and/or information to be included in Student Health, Counseling, and Well-Being communications. Serve as consultant for Assistant Directors in providing care for students. Advocates for review of, and revisions to, relevant university policies and procedures to promote the Wellness Centers mission and serve the needs of students. Identify barriers to student well-being and develop initiatives to ensure equitable access and opportunity for all students in the care of their holistic well-being.Student Health Education Coordinate, implement, and teach Peer Health Education courses in support of the development and expansion of SCUs peer education programs: PHSC 196: Peer Health Education (2 Units), PHSC 198: Peer Health Educator Practicum (1 Unit), and if necessary PHSC 191: Violence Prevention Educators (2 Units.). Oversee university Health Promotion initiatives in collaboration with other student-facing officesInitiatives & Committee Responsibilities Raise awareness of and serve as an advocate for The Wellness Center priorities with key campus partners and stakeholders. Advocate for review of and revisions to relevant university policies and procedures to promote the Wellness Centers mission and serve the needs of students. Independently makes decisions considering the degree of impact on the department and the overall student experience. Utilizes strategic planning to achieve results and makes decisions based on best practices and practical previous experience. Maintain ongoing and close consultation with Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Office of Student Life, and Title IX. Provide consultation as appropriate to those departments concerned with student well-being. Serve on committees, subcommittee(s), and task forces that address wellness issues impacting students, as appropriate. Convene and facilitate meetings, delegate tasks, and track accomplishments. Collect timely, appropriate and accurate campus statistics that pertain to student wellness and write an annual report on those statistics and the programs completed during the academic year. Assess and propose new policy, procedures, and programs that address current campus health issues. Conduct and write the Biennial Alcohol and Other Drug Review in partnership with the Office of Student Life.University Resource Ensure cultural competence, and respond effectively in serving the needs of a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population; and understanding the needs of traditionally underserved communities, including students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, FGLI students, and international students. Promote student wellness throughout campus and educate the campus community about current student trends and the impact on the campus community. Conduct the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) on a biennial basis, and write and distribute a report summarizing the results of the survey, in collaboration with the Assessment Office. Manage the sharing of information with campus partners, as appropriate. Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Off-Campus Student Life, or identify a designee, to address the holistic health of students, Participate in new student and family orientation, Welcome Weekend, and Family Weekend. Serve as a resource and collaborate with University departments as requested. Serve on University committees as appropriate. Attend local and national conferences for the purpose of advancing the work of the department and professional development. Other duties and special projects as assigned.PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION Provides direct work direction for the assistant directors (3), and indirect/secondary direction to student workers, student peer educators, and graduate students.RECEIVES WORK DIRECTION FROM Receives work direction from the Associate Vice Provost for Student Health, Counseling, and Well-BeingGENERAL GUIDELINES Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Understanding of Student Development Theory. Familiarity with Title IX and other relevant policies in a university setting, strongly preferred. Understanding of restorative justice framework in academic settings. Familiarity with multi-dimensional models of wellness or well-being as well as social determinants of health. Understanding of harm-reduction approaches to substance use and interpersonal harm. Understanding of university violence-prevention models. Understanding of trauma-informed care models. Previous experience with motivational interviewing preferred.Skills Oral and written communication skills, including experience in delivering workshops and speaking to groups of various sizes. Organizational skills including time management, multitasking, and project completion. Implementation of systems to promote efficiency, reduce rates of error, and increase ease of use for staff and customers. Commitment to customer service, both internal and external to the department. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Proficiency in SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) desired but not required.Abilities Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate programs, specifically those focusing on violence prevention and wellness. Demonstrated ability to supervise professional staff and student employees. Demonstrated ability to advise student organizations. Demonstrated ability to complete projects from inception to implementation. Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative interpersonal relationships with internal and external constituencies. Demonstrated ability to work beyond conventional business hours by having the flexibility to work in the evenings and on weekends when necessary. Demonstrated ability to independently carry out tasks of varying complexity. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality. Prior experience and/or ability to learn about grant writing is preferred.Education And/or Experience Masters degree in public health, health science, student services, psychology, counseling, social services, or equivalent education in a closely related field required. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible work in an academic setting or related field required. Expertise in areas of health and wellness issues and promotions in a college environment, or similar experience, such as alcohol and drug prevention, alcohol harm reduction, violence prevention, collegiate recovery, mental health, body image, etc. (Expertise is not required in all these areas, though it is preferred.)
