The Role:

Climate change is a complex global challenge that requires international action and collaboration between governments, industry, and individuals. Singapore's low-lying city-state status makes it vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

We must work together with the international community to address climate change and build a resilient future. At our organization, we seek to pursue sustainable development by balancing economic needs with environmental protection and social inclusion.

The transition to a low-carbon economy will be challenging for Singapore due to its scarce natural resources and open economy.

We lead initiatives to reduce emissions and drive the transition to a low-carbon economy through our Energy and Carbon Cluster.

Our officers develop carbon markets, plan energy infrastructure, strategize low-carbon energy sources, and manage mission trajectories and carbon budgets.

You will collaborate with stakeholders to support sustainable economic transformation and green growth through international trade and industry partnerships.

The Carbon Mitigation team sits within the Energy and Carbon Cluster, driving national development of non-energy mitigation measures and policies.

We work closely with agencies to formulate and coordinate strategies to ensure Singapore is prepared for climate change impacts while seizing opportunities for good jobs.

This role plays a critical part in charting Singapore's low-carbon transition path forward.

As a member of our dynamic team, you will formulate carbon mitigation strategies and policies, focusing on carbon credits.

You will examine carbon mitigation issues from multiple perspectives, assess trade-offs, and work with government agencies and stakeholders.

Candidates may be deployed across different workstreams based on their development and organizational needs.

Responsibilities include developing and reviewing carbon mitigation strategies and policies to enable a low-carbon economy transition while ensuring competitiveness and good jobs.

These efforts include implementing measures outlined in our Long-term Low-Emissions Development Strategy and Nationally Determined Contributions.

You will develop and implement plans relating to carbon credits to meet climate targets, ensuring economic competitiveness.

This includes designing an international sourcing strategy, identifying new sources of high-quality Article 6-compliant carbon credits, collaborating with organizations, and incentivizing carbon credit project development.

You will also develop communications and engagement plans to support climate strategy implementation.

Candidates should thrive in a fast-paced environment, work well with stakeholders, and demonstrate the following qualities and competencies:

  • Experience in policy review and formulation
  • Relevant experience in climate change or sustainability areas (0-9 years)
  • Relevant experience in carbon markets or environmental goods/commodities
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong ability to learn quickly
  • Driven, meticulous, and resourceful
