What the Role Entails

Climate change is a pressing global issue requiring collective action from governments, industry and individuals. As a low-lying city-state, Singapore is vulnerable to its effects.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) aims to pursue economic development while considering climate and energy factors, creating good jobs for Singaporeans in the process.

With finite resources and an open economy, Singapore faces unique trade-offs and challenges in transitioning to a low-carbon economy, necessitating innovation in both technology and policy to seize new opportunities in a carbon-constrained world.

Our Energy and Carbon cluster leads initiatives to reduce emissions and drives the transition to a low-carbon economy while ensuring energy security and cost-competitiveness.

Officers in this cluster develop energy and carbon markets, plan infrastructure development, build capabilities to harness low-carbon energy sources and manage mission trajectories and carbon budgets.

You will collaborate with various stakeholders to support sustainable economic transformation and green growth through strategic planning, policy analysis, as well as partnerships with industry and international stakeholders.

The Resource & Planning (R&P) team within the Energy & Carbon Cluster drives cross-cutting policies that straddle the carbon, energy and economic transitions impacting the industrial and energy sector.

Responsibilities include formulating policies to spur industry and power sector decarbonisation, working with government agencies to unlock more cost-effective greenhouse gas mitigation measures, and coordinating R&D efforts relating to industry decarbonisation and the energy transition.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in policy review and formulation
  • Relevant experience in climate change/sustainability areas in the public or private sector and/or non-government organisations
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong ability to learn on the fly
  • Be driven, meticulous and resourceful
