Research and Development Specialist

The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to the development of a demonstration scale low-pressure membrane system in collaboration with industry partners.

This involves assisting in all administration matters including overseeing, planning, forecasting, budgeting as well as ensuring the smooth running of the daily operations for the project. Additionally, you will assist in co-supervision of final year projects or capstone projects students or student helpers under the project principal investigator (PI).

  • Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a demonstration scale LPMS plant at a site allocated by PUB.
  • Assist in designing, planning and setting up of a lab-scale LPMS plant at a SIT campus.
  • Carry out experiments, data logging, and analysis of collected data.
  • Correlate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results generated by an expert with experimental data.

You will also assist the PI in drafting reports, conference proceedings, and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects. Furthermore, you will prepare and share fortnightly reports of results from computations with the program director and PI.

A strong foundation in fluid dynamics and understanding of fluid flow is important. Experience with design of experiments, carrying out experiments, and results analysis is necessary. Prior experience working with membrane systems is advantageous.

A recognized degree from a good university in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, chemical engineering, or environmental engineering is required. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, proficiency in handling large data sets, and ability to analyze and interpret results are essential.

Additional requirements include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and self-directed learning attitude. Proficiency in technical writing and presentation is also necessary.

The appointee should possess good self-discipline, motivation to deliver, and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the organization. A self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development is desired.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research and development activities related to low-pressure membrane systems.
  2. Design and plan experiments to test the performance of LPMS plants.
  3. Analyze data and results from experiments and CFD simulations.
  4. Draft reports and articles based on project outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, chemical engineering, or environmental engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and understanding of fluid flow.
  • Experience with design of experiments, carrying out experiments, and results analysis.
  • Prior experience working with membrane systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
