This is a high-impact, regional leadership role responsible for overseeing and elevating trade compliance across the Asia-Pacific region.
You will be the strategic and operational point of contact for trade compliance matters in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and additional regional markets.
This role blends regulatory accountability with value creation – advising the business on trade strategy, enhancing internal controls, and embedding compliance into the operational fabric of the organization.
The company is seeking a candidate who is not only well-versed in regional trade laws but also capable of working across silos to solve complex business problems through a compliance lens.
Key Responsibilities- Regulatory & Program Oversight
- Monitor and interpret APAC import/export regulations, including classification, valuation, export controls, and sanctions.
- Stay current on relevant regulatory regimes (e.g., ASEAN FTAs, China GACC, Japan METI) and provide timely guidance to business stakeholders.
- Deliver trade compliance training across APAC functional teams and sites.
- Cultivate a regional compliance ambassador network to support knowledge-sharing and local ownership.
- Foster a culture of compliance engagement beyond the core regulatory team.
- Support day-to-day trade operations, including backup for local trade compliance personnel.
- Improve oversight of non-automated flows, including paper-based transactions and non-SAP shipments.
- Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party vendors to ensure compliant and efficient movement of goods.
- Lead initiatives around duty optimization, FTAs, special regimes, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide compliance input during supply chain changes, new product launches, and operational shifts.
- Partner with functions including R&D, Tax, Finance, Procurement, and Logistics to embed compliance in business processes.
- Oversee broker performance and implement compliance KPIs for continuous improvement.
Required:
- 10+ years in international trade compliance roles, ideally within regulated or manufacturing sectors.
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Law, Business Administration, or related regulatory field.
- Experience managing compliance in multiple APAC jurisdictions.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of regional trade frameworks (e.g., GACC, METI, ASEAN FTAs), and familiarity with U.S. export regulations (EAR).
- Strong ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical business practices.
- Proven experience collaborating cross-functionally and leading compliance initiatives in matrixed environments.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Mandarin or another regional language fluency is a plus.
