Job Summary
We invite applications for the position of Senior Director of Administration and Head of Office of Research, a key role that requires a strategic leader to oversee the administrative structures and operational processes in the Office of Research and Research Centres.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic plans for administrative structures in the Office of Research, ensuring alignment with the university's goals and objectives.
Oversight of administrative units and operational processes in the Office of Research and Research Centres, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
Strategic oversight of administrative processes for research projects, including human resources and financial management.
Ensure good governance and compliance across research administration processes, maintaining high standards of integrity and transparency.
Lead the development of professional standards and productivity of administrative staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, educators, and other external partners.
Oversee the budget and financial management of research projects, ensuring effective resource allocation and utilization.
Evaluate and approve research project fund virement requests, ensuring alignment with university policies and procedures.
Perform role of approving authority within delegated funding limits, making informed decisions that support the university's strategic objectives.
Assist the Dean of Research in coordinating staff appraisals and performance management, ensuring fair and transparent processes.
Chairperson for all administrative interviews and recruitment, ensuring a fair and merit-based selection process.
Key liaison with the university's Human Resources and Finance departments, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
Oversee regular stakeholders' reporting, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and strategic updates to the university's leadership and external partners.
Ensure research projects comply with university guidelines and norms, maintaining high standards of research integrity and ethics.
Support research management and project governance matters, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration across departments.
Oversee logistic support for events in the Office of Research, ensuring smooth and efficient execution.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Research, contributing to the overall success and growth of the university.
Requirements
A university degree in a relevant field.
Proven experience in administrative roles for at least 10 years, preferably in an academic or research setting.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with a keen interest in developing staff and fostering a culture of excellence.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
Strong written and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and systems.
Critical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
Ability to manage and resolve conflicts, with a strong commitment to fairness and transparency.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines.
Facilitation of change management, with the ability to adapt to new initiatives and priorities.
Good numerical skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
