Hygiene and Food Safety Manager Position

This role involves ensuring all food handling and preparation meet strict safety standards.

  • We are seeking a skilled professional to oversee our food safety management systems, including HACCP and ISO 22000.
  • The ideal candidate will lead successful audits, enforce high standards for personal hygiene, and work effectively with teams.
  • Key responsibilities include:
  1. Food Safety Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive food safety management systems.
  • Lead, plan, and ensure successful annual internal and external audits.
  • Ensure operations meet or exceed government-set regulations.
  • Set and enforce high standards for personal hygiene among staff.
  • Lead monthly meetings to maintain and improve overall food safety and hygiene via effective communication.
  • Work with the purchasing and supply chain teams to conduct audits and manage food safety issues with suppliers.
  • Liaise with pest control contractors and review reports to manage and prevent pest issues.
  • Liaise with chemical vendors and monitor performance to ensure good chemical management.
  • Monitor and work with external caterers to ensure food safety and hygiene in staff kitchens and cafés.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in food safety and hygiene management systems.
  1. Inspections and Audits
  • Conduct regular internal audits of food preparation areas, storage, and equipment.
  • Prepare for and manage inspections by regulatory agencies and third-party auditors.
  • Plan and liaise with lab specialists on monthly sampling.
  • Review lab test results and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain meticulous records of food safety procedures, training sessions, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies.
  • Investigate and resolve food safety-related incidents, customer complaints, and near-misses.
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions based on root cause analysis.
  • Assess potential food safety hazards in all stages of food handling and processing.
  • Work with engineering teams on regular inspections and schedule repairs to ensure compliance.
  1. Waste Management
  • Develop and oversee procedures for waste management, including recycling and minimizing food waste.
  1. Training and Development
  • Design and deliver food safety and hygiene training programs for new and existing employees.
  • Promote a positive food safety culture where employees feel empowered to report concerns.

Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as HACCP, Certified Auditor, or other relevant food safety certifications required.
  • Preferably 5 years' experience in a food safety role within a food manufacturing or hospitality environment.

Key Skills

  • A deep understanding of food safety regulations, industry best practices, and standards like ISO 22000.
  • The ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team to achieve high hygiene standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively train staff, liaison with regulatory agencies, and present reports to management.
  • The capacity to define problems, analyze data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
  • A meticulous and organized approach to record-keeping and inspections.
