The role of a Sterile Instrument Specialist is pivotal in maintaining the highest standards of sterile processing in the Theatre Sterile Supplies Unit (TSSU).
Primary Responsibilities:- Ensure the smooth functioning of the TSSU by receiving, sorting, decontaminating, inspecting, packing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical items.
- Supervise and guide junior staff in their work, promoting efficient team dynamics and seamless activity flow within the TSSU.
- Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators to guarantee optimal sterilization processes.
- Conduct regular inventory checks of sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies, ensuring timely issue of these essential items.
- Oversee the maintenance of washer disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers, ensuring all preventive maintenance is up-to-date.
- Facilitate communication and information sharing among colleagues, in-charge staff, and supervisors.
- Assist in clinical and service quality activities, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the development and implementation of instrument tracking systems and data management.
- Collaborate with OT nurses to ensure adequate consignment sets are available for procedures.
- Demonstrate awareness of current healthcare practices, staying updated on industry developments and best practices.
- Diploma in Engineering or relevant technical credentials.
- One year of working experience as an Instrument Technical Assistant or equivalent experience in CSSD/TSSU.
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Good command of written English and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
