">Job Title: Instrument Technician

The Instrument Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Sterile Supplies Unit (SSU). This includes supervising the receipt, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments to operating theatres, wards, and procedural rooms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the daily operations of the SSU, including receiving, sorting, decontaminating, inspecting, packing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical items.
  • Evaluate and maintain the standards for loads and operate washer-disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers.
  • Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators to ensure accurate results.
  • Conduct regular inventory of sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies.
  • Issue sterile supplies to supporting areas in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance (PM) for washer disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers.
  • Clean and maintain the SSU storage area.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment to staff.
  • Report defective equipment and facilitate repair or replacement.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and guide junior staff in their work, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Participate in clinical and service quality activities to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate awareness of current healthcare practices and trends.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate instrument tracking data and systems.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Engineering or relevant technical credentials.
  • One year of working experience as an Instrument Technical Assistant or relevant experience in CSSD/TSSU.
  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written English communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
