Job Summary

The Medical Instrument Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our healthcare facilities. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for providing sterile and reusable surgical instruments and equipment. Your expertise in all aspects of sterile processing will guarantee that our patients receive the highest level of care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise receiving, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of sterile items to operation theatres, SOC, in-patient wards, and procedural rooms.
  • Evaluate and ensure the proper functioning of washer-disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers.
  • Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators.
  • Conduct regular inventory of sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies.
  • Issue sterile supplies to supporting areas in a timely manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of preventive maintenance (PM) for washer disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washer, and sterilizers.
  • Clean and maintain the TSSU storage area.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment.
  • Report defective equipment and take appropriate action for repair or replacement.
  • Identify and notify In-Charge of instruments that require repair or replacement.
  • Liaise with OT nurses on consignment sets required for procedures.
  • Foster team dynamics and ensure the smooth running of activities within the TSSU.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide junior staff in their work.
  • Participate in clinical and service quality activities.
  • Demonstrate awareness of current healthcare practices.
  • Assist in maintaining instrument tracking data and system up to date.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Senior Instrument Technician, Instrument Specialist, and Assistant/Deputy Director (Nursing).

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Engineering or relevant technical credentials.
  • One year of working experience as Instrument Technical Assistant or relevant experience in CSSD/TSSU.
  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written English communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
