Job Title: Maritime Operations Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maritime Operations Director to oversee the safe and efficient operation of vessels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of vessel operations, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and environmental standards.
  • Management of day-to-day vessel operations, providing guidance to Masters, Chief Engineers, and onboard teams on cargo and tank/hold operations, port procedures, anchoring and mooring activities, technical and engine room operations, navigation updates, war risk advisories, and insurance coverage.
  • Monitoring of the onboard maintenance system, addressing overdue items, and ensuring timely action.
  • Review of vessel reports, acting on findings, and communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Tracking of vessel certification status and arrangement of statutory and class surveys.
  • Liaison with Principals to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Conduct of vessel visits at least three times per year, including sailing inspections, and preparation of Superintendent Visit Reports.
  • Compilation of Executive Summaries after each visit.
  • Recording of inspection and audit reports in company systems and follow-up on closing deficiencies.
  • Preparation of periodic management reports.
  • Support and coordination of Oil Major vetting inspections.
  • Arrangement of external safety audits and onboard training sessions.
  • Ensuring timely closure of audit and inspection findings.
  • Participation in emergency response efforts.
  • Investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, performing root cause analyses.
  • Review of corrective and preventive measures from investigations.
  • Participation in emergency drills and tabletop exercises.
  • Assistance with planning and follow-up for Flag State Inspections and ISM/ISPS/MLC audits.
  • Support of vessels during Port State Inspections and monitoring of timely resolution of deficiencies.
  • Review and submission of corrective action plans and reports to authorities.
  • Assistance with vessels in conducting and documenting risk assessments.
  • Recording and review of both planned and unplanned off-hire periods.
  • Maintenance of strict cost control of vessel operating budgets.
  • Review and approval of monthly financial reports.
  • Consolidation of vessel and departmental data for annual budget preparation.
  • Monitoring of vessel requisitions, ensuring timely submission and delivery in coordination with Purchasing.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. They will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vessels, while also maintaining compliance with international maritime regulations and environmental standards.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. nautical science, engineering, business administration).
