**Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD)**

The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation was established as a non-profit organisation in August 2021 following the recommendation of the International Advisory Panel for Maritime Decarbonisation established by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore in 2020. The mission of this centre is to help the maritime industry eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions by shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects and fostering collaboration across sectors.

This centre is strategically located in Singapore, the world’s largest maritime bunkering hub and second largest transhipment container port, and will coordinate regional and global decarbonisation efforts. The centre has so far raised about S$170 million from the Singapore government and the private sector to support its work.

GCMD currently employs 12 people.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Director of Project Operations is a member of the Research and Projects section and leads the operations team.

Project ideation role (10%)
- Co-ideates projects with the Director of Projects emphasising operational feasibility and co-develop operationalisation plans for projects
- Co-engages potential project partners or stakeholders with Director of Projects to ensure operational aspects of the project are well conceived
- Co-develops project execution plan with Director of Projects for board approval

Project operationalisation role (70%)
- Leads the operationalisation of projects with the support of the designated project manager within each projects team
- Advises the Director of Projects on the status of project execution and highlight issues, especially deviations from intended project execution plans, budgets and/or project objectives
- Assists the Director of Projects in evaluating proposals

External Engagement Role (20%)
- Works closely with relevant government agencies before, during and after the commencement of projects/pilots
- Represents GCMD at external functions and events
- Supports senior management by engaging with potential partners

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
- Minimum diploma from a recognised institute of higher learning, either in maritime related studies, engineering or sciences
- Minimum 10 years of working experience with at least 7 years in the maritime sector
- Captain or Chief Engineer preferred
- Demonstration of strong project management skills
- Good understanding on maritime decarbonisation related issues is a plus
- Strong command of English
- Passionate about sustainability and maritime decarbonisation
- Team player, highly motivated, ability to work independently and confidently under pressure
