Job Description:

DBJ Singapore Limited (DBJS) is a subsidiary of Development Bank of Japan (DBJ). Our mission is to give financial support and professional advice to Japanese companies to expand and deploy their business in overseas.

DBJS provides support for investments and loans as well as M&A advisory services mainly in the Asia-Pacific region. We are currently looking for a suitable candidate for Director of Research who leads our newly established research team.

  1. Establishing and managing the research department
    Responsible for establishing and managing the newly established research department, formulating the department's vision and strategy. Setting departmental goals and establishing a system to smoothly carry out research activities. This also includes managing subordinates, conducting training and workshops to improve team performance, and enhancing members' skills.
  2. Market research and analysis
    Conducting research and analysis on economic, political, and geopolitical trends in Southeast Asia, Australia, and India. This includes competitive analysis and understanding industry trends to provide information that contributes to the business of the Development Bank of Japan (DBJ). Evaluating investment projects and conducting risk analysis, analyzing the impact of regional policy changes and regulations, evaluating investment opportunities, and proposing strategies to minimize risks.
  3. Support of Investment/loan and M&A advisory
    Providing valuable advice for investment/loan activities and playing a crucial role in M&A advisory. Offering valuable information for important management decisions to the executives of DBJ. Supporting strategic decision-making through the creation of research reports and presentations.
  4. Networking and information gathering
    Networking with public institutions, financial institutions, and companies both domestically and internationally, including in Singapore, to gather information. This helps in understanding the latest market trends and industry information, contributing to DBJ's business. Strengthening collaboration with other departments and promoting information sharing.
  5. Information dissemination and public relations
    Disseminating research results and analysis through reports and lectures. This enhances DBJ's visibility and credibility. Creating research reports and presentations to provide valuable information to external stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree and above in Business administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics or a related field that contributes to research.

Past Working Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in the financial industry, including at least 3 years in a research department.
  • More than 3 years of experience in researching and analyzing economic, political, and geopolitical trends in Southeast Asia, Australia, and India, with competitive analysis and industry trends.
  • At least 5 years of experience in investment activities and M&A advisory, providing valuable information for investment and M&A activities, with hands-on experience in debt finance, relationship management with large enterprises, private equity investments, mezzanine investments, and investments in funds throughout the deal lifecycle.
  • More than 5 years of experience in providing valuable information for important management decisions to executives of financial institutions, with a proven track record of supporting strategic decision-making through the creation of research reports and presentations.
  • At least 10 years of experience working in relation to Japanese financial regulations and laws in order to ensure that the Singapore office complies with the same compliance standard of corporate finance and investment criteria as our Japan head office that is regulated by Ministry of Finance in Japan.
  • At least 10 years of experience in government-related financial institutions or government-related investment firms, with experience in leading teams, communicating with government and regulatory authorities, and understanding the reporting structure to a government-owned head office.

  • Strong networking, information gathering, and dissemination skills, with the ability to engage with public institutions, financial institutions, and companies both domestically and internationally, including in Singapore and Japan. Proven experience in leveraging research findings through reports and presentations to enhance corporate visibility and credibility.

  • Excellent organizational skills
