About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor, Commercial Strategy to deliver Commercial's vision to be the best in the industry and bring products to market in new ways. This role is responsible for driving the evolution of the Commercial group, by leading the central strategy process and implementing specific strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Head of Market Analysis, you will be:

  • Leading the Strategy process for Commercial by working with Sales and Marketing, Procurement, and Marine and Logistics departments to develop coherent and cohesive strategies aligned with Commercial priorities and Rio Tinto Group Strategy.
  • Leading the execution of Strategic Initiatives as required.
  • Generating, identifying, evaluating, and building business cases for new Commercial opportunities and initiatives within Commercial.
  • Supporting senior management in preparation for Exco and Board meetings regarding Strategy topics.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or MBA in a relevant discipline with significant Strategy and/or Business Analysis experience with a commercial focus.
  • At least ten years of strategy-focused experience with exposure to a mixture of mining, trading, accounting, business analysis, risk, treasury, and valuations. Experience in Management Consulting will be an asset.
  • Strong leadership ability with personal presence capable of effectively interacting with senior stakeholders.
  • Sound diplomatic and negotiation skills in dealing with the industrial and political environments as well as with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex work and ideas into proposals for senior management.
  • Focused and results-oriented, driven by excellence, change agent, and highly autonomous.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong management and interpersonal skills. Effective communicator at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while understanding and considering the impacts of details.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and execute.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite - particularly in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

  • Dedication to deliver on commitments and achieve deadlines.
