About the role
We are looking for a

Principal Advisor, Commercial Strategy and Business Analysis to deliver Commercial's vision to be the best in the industry and brings products to market in new ways. This role is responsible for driving the evolution of the Commercial group's strategic narrative, by leading the central strategy process, and implementing specific strategic initiatives - and contributing to the Business Analysis function which is responsible for evaluating business proposals and making recommendations to the Investment Committee to execute on the Strategy.

Reporting to the GM Commercial Strategy and Business Analysis, you will be:


  • Leading the Strategy process for Commercial by working with Sales and Marketing, Procurement and Marine and Logistics departments to develop coherent and cohesive strategies aligned with Commercial priorities and Rio Tinto Group Strategy.
  • Leading the execution of Strategic Initiatives as required.
  • Generating, identifying, evaluating, and building business cases for new Commercial opportunities and initiatives within Commercial, in preparation for Investment Committee decisions
  • Supporting senior management in preparation for Exco, Board, and external Investor Relations meetings regarding Commercial Strategy topics.

About you
***
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or MBA in a relevant discipline with significant Strategy and/or Business Analysis experience with commercial focus.
  • Five to ten years strategyfocused experience with exposure to a mixture of mining, trading, accounting, business analysis, risk, treasury, and business valuations.
  • Experience in Management Consulting or Investment Banking will be a strong asset.
  • Strong writing capabilities able to translate complex issues into concise, clear papers and memos for a very senior audience (Exco, Board) as well as PowerPoint presentations
  • Strong analytical abilities, including financial modelling and business case evaluation.
  • Strong leadership ability with personal presence capable of effectively interacting with very senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex work and ideas into proposals for senior management.
  • Focused and results oriented, driven by excellence, change agent and highly autonomous.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects at once ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to think strategically while understanding and considering the impacts of details.
  • Dedication to deliver on commitments and achieve deadlines.
