Summary of Duties:


The Senior Business Development Officer will work on the planning, development, and delivery of the Province of Alberta's international programming in the areas of trade promotion, innovation, advocacy, and investment attraction.

Under the direction of the Government of Alberta's Managing Director for the Indo-Pacific, and as a member of Canada's Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) working in the High Commission of Canada to Singapore, the position will:

  • Identify export opportunities, facilitate trade, and profile Alberta as a preferred supplier in Alberta's priority sectors of energy, agriculture, information and communication technologies (ICT), transportation and services, in Singapore and the Southeast Asian market.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Alberta exporters to provide market intelligence and coaching on entry and expansion in the Singapore and Southeast Asian market.
  • Lead and support incoming and outgoing trade and political delegations, including ministerial missions.
  • Represent the Province of Alberta at trade events, conferences, and roundtables, and support Alberta clients participating at such events.
  • Support Province of Alberta advocacy initiatives in Singapore and ASEAN that seeks to establish and develop relationships with national and subnational governments and agencies.
  • Support investment attraction activities that identify and develop qualified investment leads in Singapore and ASEAN.
  • Provide research and analysis on economic drivers and business needs of local contacts and engage in outreach or corporate liaison activities to promote Alberta's economic sectors.
  • Develop policy and project documents, such as presentations, briefing notes, speaking notes, funding estimates, contracts, reports and communication materials, and provide input into program planning and the development of documents related to Alberta's priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Canadian missions and Trade Commissioners throughout ASEAN to share information, strategies, tactics, and best practices to the extent they align with Alberta's priorities in the country.
  • Tracks operational budget and performance measures.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Language will be assessed further during the process.

Education:

  • Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, such as International Business, International Relations, Commerce, etc.

Language:

  • Professional fluency in English (oral and written)

Experience:

  • At least four (4) years of professional experience working in international trade or investment attraction.
  • Experience in project management (such as strategic planning, tracking/reporting results and budget management);
  • Experience in developing and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships and in providing services to customers/clients;
  • Experience conducting research and analysis and providing strategic advice, briefings and written reports to senior management and/or clients on business issues.
  • Experience with computer and online software and databases such as MS Office 365 and CRM systems.
