Overview

As a Staff Software Development Engineer at Zscaler, you will play a crucial role in our Shared Platform Services team. Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, you will be tasked with designing, building, and scaling our cloud data analytics platform. This platform is responsible for the ingestion, processing, and querying of terabytes of endpoint telemetry. Your responsibilities will also include engineering and maintaining a scalable alerting and incident detection engine using Python and workflow orchestrators. Additionally, you will create and manage insightful Grafana dashboards and other visualizations to provide clear, actionable views of our systems health and performance for engineering, support, and leadership teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and scale the cloud data analytics platform responsible for ingestion, processing, and querying of terabytes of endpoint telemetry.
  • Engineer and maintain a scalable alerting and incident detection engine using Python and workflow orchestrators.
  • Create and manage insightful Grafana dashboards and other visualizations to provide clear, actionable views of our systems health and performance for engineering, support, and leadership teams.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, backend, or SRE roles with a focus on large-scale data.
  • Expert-level proficiency in a query language like SQL or Kusto Query Language (KQL).
  • Strong programming skills in Python for data processing, automation, and building data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider, with a preference for Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing systems for big data analytics, time-series monitoring, alerting/anomaly detection, or data visualization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with the current stack at Zscaler, including Azure Data Explorer (ADX), Grafana, and Apache Airflow.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Bicep.
