About The Role

To support the GWS Local business by educating, influencing and advising key stakeholders on commercial best practices in order to contribute to the long-term growth and profitability of the business in line with the wider GWS Local business strategy.

The Commercial role dedicated to GWS Local to support new and existing business and growth, providing day-to-day support to the Local team and accounts. Be the subject matter expert on the commercial agreements, including but not limited to: commercial terms, areas of risk and reward, operational compliance, cost control, financial responsibilities and liabilities, milestone obligations. Work with the business SMEs and legal team to support the GWS Local business.

Take the lead on the commercial position of the accounts, including attending regular customer meetings, review meetings, reporting, and rolling out commercial training, as well as developing bespoke training for large accounts as required.

Support the transition of new wins, including educating and influencing operational and procurement teams in managing, mitigating, and flowing down risk, managing change on the accounts, supporting change, and sharing best practices.

What You'll Do Team/Talent Management
  • Identify commercial talent and develop potential commercial successors.
  • Educate, mentor, and manage commercial managers on all areas of the business.
  • Develop a commercial team with consistent commercial messages.
  • Identify areas of growth and development within the commercial team.
  • Promote the capabilities of the commercial team throughout the business.
Negotiate and Agree Contracts – Pre-Contract Activity
  • Support the legal and business teams in the timely agreement of contracts to mutual satisfaction.
  • Be involved in pursuits, solutioning, expansions, re-tenders, and retention strategies.
  • Adopt and agree on the best negotiation strategies with stakeholders.
  • Lead commercial negotiations to achieve signed contracts.
  • Influence stakeholders and ensure compliance with policies and standards.
Commercial Policy/Procedure Compliance
  • Promote compliance with governance policies.
  • Attend reviews to promote commercial best practices.
  • Provide and maintain standard documentation and templates.
  • Educate and influence stakeholders on compliance.
Educate and Advise on Commercial Best Practice
  • Develop senior leadership commercial awareness through various training and meetings.
  • Advise on contractual obligations.
  • Develop and run commercial training courses.
  • Provide guidance throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Stay updated on legal and commercial changes.
Commercial Solutions
  • Provide solutions to operational challenges to reduce risk and maximize opportunities.
  • Analyze circumstances and articulate options.
  • Influence stakeholders to adopt the best solutions.
  • Build long-term customer relationships.
  • Consider innovative solutions and lead on high-risk issues.
Supplier Engagement
  • Promote best practices in supplier appointment.
  • Support sourcing with contractual and negotiation expertise.
  • Ensure appropriate supplier selection and contractual obligations.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 in a leadership role.
  • Strong contract negotiation skills.
  • Problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of contracting, legal legislation, and industry-standard contracts.
  • Proven ability to influence sales and profit.
