We’re looking to add a Director of Factory Automation & Robotics in Singapore .

A Director of Factory Automation & Robotics in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provides strategic leadership and direction for the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems and robotic solutions across all manufacturing facilities. This role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies, robotics, and lean manufacturing principles, as well as strong leadership and project management skills to drive innovation and operational excellence. The director will be responsible for developing and executing automation strategies, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful integration of automation solutions into the manufacturing process.

As a Director of Factory Automation & Robotics, you will be responsible for:

Strategic Planning & Leadership
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive automation strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives and production goals.
  • Define and prioritize automation projects, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, efficiency gains, and potential for quality improvement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing (e.g., Industry 4.0, AI-driven automation, IoT).
  • Collaboration with external automation companies to implement strategic and selective automation in various manufacturing facilities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of automation engineers and technicians to innovate and sustain automated operation, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Automation System Design & Implementation
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of automated systems, including robotic automated work cells, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and other relevant technologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate automation solutions into existing manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless functionality and optimal performance.
  • Manage the integration of various automation technologies (e.g., vision systems, RFID, PLCs, IPCs) into the manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
Project Management & Execution
  • Lead and manage automation projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, IT, and procurement, to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project documentation, including system specifications, programming code, and test procedures.
  • Oversee the commissioning and validation of new automation systems to ensure they meet performance requirements.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for automation to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Implement data analytics solutions to monitor and optimize automated processes, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for automated systems and train relevant personnel on their use.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for automation systems, regularly reviewing performance and identifying areas for optimization.
  • Evaluate and select automation equipment vendors and technology providers, ensuring they meet the company's technical and quality requirements.
  • Manage relationships with automation suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of equipment and services.
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop customized solutions and stay informed about the latest advancements in automation technology.
What skills and experiences we are looking for
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics) or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on robotics and smart manufacturing solutions within the EMS industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing large-scale automation projects, including design, implementation, and commissioning.
  • Deep understanding of automation technologies, including PLCs, IPCs, SCADA systems, robotic systems, AGVs, and vision systems.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Industry 4.0 concepts, and data analytics techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with safety regulations and compliance standards related to automation and robotics.
