Who is the Legal Manager, SEA ?

This role supports the Legal team in Singapore on a broad range of commercial, compliance, corporate secretary and other matters across our business areas in Southeast Asia.

What are the key responsibilities?

Be accountable for delivering legal services to internal teams; prevent and control legal risks and associated business risks. Function as a leader demonstrating courage - experience and willingness to be the "dissenting voice" and willingness to take a stand on the "right thing to do" when required. Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements relating to our services, procurement, IT, marketing tenancy, human resources amongst many other commercial issues. Provide legal advice to business development of the Southeast Asia region, including timely legal support to the business, especially potential legal risk and regulatory risk and compliance advice to ensure the region's business activities comply with all relevant laws, rules and regulations. Identify regulatory and compliance risks in the existing business model and process, promote the adjustment thereof to reduce the risks or prevent the risks from happening beforehand. Provide advice on product construct and legal structure design, regulatory issues identification, resources and capacity management, partner expectation management and contractual relationship management Manage contract performance together with other functions after contract execution to ensure the company is complying with all contractual obligations. Present with clarity and simplicity to audience including senior management team on complex legal topics applying to the business. Identifying potential dispute areas by aligning with functional teams and handle disputes effectively. Ensure stakeholders are familiar with the legal issues involved in the business and its internal operation and assist in implementing Global and APAC legal initiatives in Southeast Asia. Assist in company secretarial matters including preparation of shareholder and board resolutions and monitoring of legal expenses. Undertake legal and regulatory research and liaise with external counsel and external parties.

Here’s what you’ll bring to the team:

Bachelor of Law degree from a reputable institution At least 3 years' relevant experience in a law firm or inhouse legal department and has knowledge on legal practice areas such as corporate, commercial contracts, IP, IT, insurance, marketing and personal data protection Admission to practice in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand or any major common law jurisdiction is advantageous Exposure to technology, telecommunications or insurance industries is a plus Fluency in English is essential and fluency in Bahasa Malay or Thai is advantageous. Confident and proactive person who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Ability and enthusiasm to apply legal knowledge Be a quick learner in both legal skills and functional knowledge and practice, to enable the support and the influence to function teams and senior management Strong business acumen and willingness to work under demanding and changing business environment with effective management of relationships at various levels across the organisation Detail oriented, organized and able to keep commitments Proactive at driving results by organising relevant and reasonable resource to build up capacities, both internally and externally High integrity, willingness to stick to highest ethical standard in challenging situations Organised and ability to keep to commitments Solution-oriented and fact based when facing challenges or issues Open-minded and eager to learn, for example, be open to different perspectives in assessing an idea, a solution, a problem or an issue Be a problem identifier and a creative problem
