Senior Counsel, Competition and Market Regulation

Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs team (CELA) has an exciting opening for a highly skilled professional to be responsible for Microsoft’s engagement on competition and market regulation in the Asia region, and for providing competition law advice and guidance to Microsoft’s Asia business.
This unique role, combining legal counsel and regulatory affairs, will cover the Asia region, including Australia and New Zealand, Greater China, India, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. The location for the role is flexible (within Asia), with a preference for being located in Australia, Japan, Korea or Singapore. The role will require some travel across Asia as it supports work across the region. The Competition and Market Regulation Lead will work in close partnership with (among others) CELA geography leads across Asia, CELA attorneys and government affairs professionals and the CELA corporate Competition and Market Regulation Group.
Microsoft engages with regulators, academics, and others to consider the role of competition and market regulation in the face of our changing economy and the development of new technology. The role requires a broad understanding of our industry and our customers, technology, the political environment and the law as well as the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate across disciplines to solve problems.
**Responsibilities**:
- Building the capability of the CELA Asia team and key Microsoft business partners to proactively identify and mitigate competition law risks. This includes leading the development and execution of training programs and becoming a trusted advisor for key internal stakeholders in Asia on competition law issues.
- Sharing information on a timely basis with key internal stakeholders on regulatory developments, including across the CELA Asia team and the corporate Competition and Market Regulation group.
- Identifying competition and market regulation trends in Asia, as well as associated risks and/or opportunities for Microsoft.
- Taking an active role in external outreach with regulators, academics, legislators, economists and other stakeholders, including through events, coordinated with appropriate local Microsoft representatives.
- Contributing to the work of the Asia government affairs community and commercial legal community by contributing to initiatives and projects.
- Managing and developing relationships with outside counsel and other external and internal resources to leverage technical expertise, local regulatory expertise, and drive impact at scale across Asia.
- Working in partnership with CELA country teams and the corporate Competition and Market Regulation Group, coordinate responses to regulatory investigations, and regulatory engagement related to mergers and acquisitions.
**Qualifications**:
**Required/Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor's Juris Doctorate Degree or equivalent International Degree
- OR completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.
- Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in the relevant jurisdiction.
- 10+ years experience as a practicing attorney
- OR equivalent practice of law.
- Strong skills in communications, stakeholder & relationship management, collaboration.
**Additional or Preferred Qualifications**
- 7+ years experience as an attorney specializing in competition or market regulation.
- Experience in thought leadership and regulator engagement.
- Strong knowledge and exposure to Asia region.
