**Overview**
This is a **Senior Counsel** position in the Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Team and will report to the Supervising Counsel, Privacy and Cybersecurity. The Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Team houses Chevron’s privacy and cyber attorneys in addition to the Global Privacy Office (GPO) which is responsible for Chevron’s enterprise data privacy program.
**Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to**:
- Provide day to day legal advice to all operating units globally on all aspects of data privacy compliance.
- Research and maintain current knowledge of applicable foreign (GDPR, LGPD, PIPL, PDPA, etc.), federal, and state data privacy laws and industry standards—primary focus on the Asia-Pacific region, secondary focus on Middle East, Asia, South Asia regions and rest of the world (excluding the United States).
- Work closely with the Global Data Privacy Manager to develop data-privacy and network-security policies and compliance standards and support the maintenance of the enterprise data privacy program.
- Monitor advancements in data privacy and network security technology. Work to ensure organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations in light of technical developments.
- Provide legal advice on issues related to other information technology initiatives, including implementation of cloud-software and network-security initiatives.
- Advise on appropriate data protection terms for vendors, supplier, customer and employee agreements and provide transactional support in negotiation and drafting company contracts and agreements, as necessary.
- Support critical incident management processes in addressing suspected or actual data privacy and security incidents and handle legal aspects of compliance with foreign and domestic laws regarding data breaches.
- Develop and deliver data privacy training to company personnel.
- Work with internal audit resources to develop and implement internal audits of company compliance with data privacy laws, regulations, and policies.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Licensed to practice law in a major international market (e.g., California, Singapore)
- Juris Doctor or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in international, federal and state legal/regulatory aspects of data privacy and network security
- Familiarity with data privacy and network security concepts, technologies, and practices
- Transactional experience in negotiating and drafting contracts
- Demonstrated experience advising clients in business, corporate, and transactional matters
- Proven client counseling skills in providing pragmatic day-to-day advice; informing clients of important legal developments, and warning clients of potential legal risks
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations in other legal compliance areas; knowledgeable about effective compliance programs
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Certified Information Privacy Professional desired (prefer CIPP/E)
**Other Considerations**:
- Willing to travel internationally, if required
**Relocation Options**:
Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.
**International Considerations**:
Chevron participates in E-Verify in certain locations as required by law.
