Roles & Responsibilities

A full-time position at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is open for an Assistant Professor, Medical Education Research. Reporting to the Dean and Vice Dean, Education, the appointee is expected to contribute significantly to medical education research, supporting the Medical Education Research and Scholarship Unit (MERSU) in its mission to become a leading centre of excellence globally.

MERSU’s focus is rigorous, theory-driven research which progresses understanding of individual, systems and societal influences on learning and performance, and then applies this knowledge to optimise the policy and practice of medical and health professions education.

The appointee will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and support faculty in development of health professions education (HPE) research expertise. This position reports to Vice Dean, Education and Dean.

**Primary Responsibilities/Activities**:

- Work with Vice Dean, Education Prof Cleland to establish a strong qualitative research stream within MERSU
- To extend, through research, understanding of the social and material aspects of teaching and learning, and how individual factors, culture and contexts influence the processes and outcomes of teaching and learning
- Develop and lead own research programmes which align with MERSU mission
- Support faculty to develop skills and expertise in HPE research
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (e.g., supervising student projects, stimulating student interest in HPE)
- Work as part of a team dedicated to contributing to the quality of LKCMedicine’s education and research
**Person Specification**:

- MBBS/MD and/or PhD
- Relevant postdoctoral experience
- Significant experience and record of research and teaching with a high level of scientific achievement, productivity, and impact in the field of health professions education (HPE)
- Good independent and teamworking skills
- Ability to supervise and mentor research staff and students
- Experience and desire to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education and training
