Singapore Acre Full time

Are you passionate about combatting climate change and revolutionising sustainable agriculture?

We have an exceptional opportunity for a visionary Climate Action Lead to join a world-leading organisation. With a global presence and a commitment to driving positive change, our client is at the forefront of transforming the agricultural industry.

Our client is one of the largest agri-commodity traders, who supply food, feed and fibre to meet rising demand and a shift to protein-based diets, particularly in Asian and African countries. Headquartered in Singapore and present on all continents, their value chains include farming, processing, and distribution operations, as well as a sourcing network of an estimated 2.5 million farmers. As a purpose-driven company, they aim to contribute positively to the prosperity and well-being of people along their supply chains, the protection and regeneration of their natural resource base, and the fight against climate change.

As Climate Action Lead in the global Sustainability function, you will lead our client's efforts to grow an outstanding global portfolio of Nature-based Climate Solutions (NCS) based around the company's estates and farming operations, and across our highly diverse supply chains; helping to reduce the company's greenhouse gas footprint in line with their ambitious Science Based Targets (SBTi) for climate, and generating multiple social and environmental benefits in the landscapes where they operate. The NCS portfolio will generate business value through carbon removals/reductions for GHG in-settings or verified Carbon credits, which can be put on sale in global carbon markets, and/or as a commercial offering to customers.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Designing, co-developing, implementing, and driving NCS projects and programs in teamwork with the BU & central CR&S members to meet the company's climate and generate value from emissions reductions, avoided emissions, and carbon removals/sequestration.
- Identifying, prioritising, budgeting, and driving the implementation of both Group-wide and operation-specific NCS actions and projects.
- Working with the legal team to develop commercial agreements/MoUs with producers, customers, and BUs to advance NCS and climate-friendly products and services.
- Working with the CR&S team within BUs to engage governments, multi-laterals, civil society, grant-making bodies, universities, and other relevant organisations to form technical and financial partnerships to advance NCS projects.
- Leading on emerging NCS technologies, regulatory changes, and innovative approaches that help deliver our ambition.
- Evaluating and advising on the design and technical implementation of sustainability projects generated by BUs to maximise climate benefits and assign value to GHG emissions reduction, avoidance, or removals.
- Developing and driving through practical innovations and approaches to NCS with partners and service providers.
- Monitoring and reporting relevant risks, progress, and impacts. Work with other functions, including Legal, Risk & Finance, Corporate Carbon foot printing team, and ventures, to integrate climate change and NCS outcomes into ongoing work (Climate-related risk, Integrated Impact Statement, etc).
- Representing the company externally to develop NCS standards and policies through multi-stakeholder platforms and partnerships.

In this role, you will work with the Business Units (BUs) to improve existing projects and assess new opportunities for NCS across their supply chains and operating sites; act as the company's key technical advisor in shaping projects and programmes to deliver an optimal balance of measurable Climate benefits and co-benefits (livelihoods, biodiversity and ecosystem services); train and mentor internal staff involved in project delivery; and support project implementation and monitoring as required.

**Key Requirements**:

- A personal passion for sustainable agriculture and food systems
- 10+ years of practical experience in developing and managing relevant projects, e.g., in agroforestry, forest and soil conservation, sustainable crop production.
- Educational Qualification (Masters or PhD preferred) / equivalent technical experience in Environmental science or Ecology or Soil Science or related field
- Significant climate-relevant policy development experience and a strong network with relevant regulators and agencies, finance organisations, NGOs and climate-focused alliances.
- Experience with donors, implementing agencies and partners in REDD+ type projects.
- A thorough, practice-based understanding of current standards, tools, technologies, and trends in GHG emissions measurement and accounting in relevant sectors. Experience in managing complex projects within a large organisation and in partnership with multiple stakeholders.
