A Brief Overview
The Chief Risk Officer, APAC will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of enterprise risk management necessary for APAC to achieve its strategic and financial objectives. Role includes oversight of risk management of RGA's traditional and financial solutions business lines across all Asia Pacific markets.
What you will do
- Function as a key advisor to EVP Head of APAC and the Deputy Chief Risk Officer on all APAC risk related issues.
- Promote a strong risk management culture across APAC through regular communication, liaising with internal networks, and ensuring a consistent tone from the top that emphasizes a forward-thinking approach focused on both risks and opportunities.
- Proactively develop, recommend and implement regional risk management strategies, policies, procedures, and frameworks aligned to Enterprise standards to ensure all risks are identified, monitored, assessed, reported and actioned as necessary.
- Lead the APAC regional risk team to drive high engagement and achievement of high-performance standards, including fostering the growth and development of staff.
- Partner with local leaders (and local risk leaders) within APAC to ensure local risk management needs are being met, including local statutory requirements with regards to risk management.
- Provide risk support for major APAC initiatives and significant risk events, including changes to strategy, new transactions or product offerings and relevant system/process improvements. Provide valuable insights for use in risk-based decision making.
- Anticipate and understand emerging trends and issues as they relate to RGA's risk profile in the region.
- Represent the needs and objectives of APAC businesses with internal stakeholders.
- Actively participate in industry networks and with peer risk leaders across the industry to share and foster a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Lead ad-hoc regional projects as agreed from time to time.
Qualifications
- 20+ Years of actuarial experience in life, annuity or health, (re)insurance preferred
- Exceptional communication ability, both verbal and written
- Proven ability to work in a collaborative manner and demonstrated ability to lead and influence others at all levels in an organization
- Highly advanced people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, mentor and develop geographically dispersed associates
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly learn and understand complex business issues
- Ability to apply critical thinking in a practical manner; willingness to challenge the status quo and provide decisive and constructive feedback on a variety of issues
- Innovative and creative problem-solving skills with an ability to proactively anticipate "what if" outcomes and related courses of action to effectively manage risk
- Highly advanced skills in implementing change, ensuring understanding, participation and ownership
- Proven ability to interact and work well with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Accreditation as a fellow in a globally recognized actuarial association (e.g. US, Canada, Australia, UK or equivalent) preferred
